Joe has worked extensively in Northern Ireland, as a physician in Mid Ulster Hospital since 1982, and as GP in Moneymore since 1984. He is a Queen’s University examiner and an appeals tribunals judge in the Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast.
His interests are Cosmology, Molecular biology and Pharmacotherapeutics. He has taught students and post graduates for years and given lectures all over Ireland, Scotland, England and Europe on mostly medical topics and molecular medicine.
Since 2016, Mid Ulster hospital has become a Rehab Unit with 25 beds, 9 of which are palliative care. Along with Jim Henry, Margaret Keenan, Jim and Valerie Beattie, he set up Charis in Cookstown NI, providing all manner of help, active and terminal for patients with cancer in 2005.

Joe plays golf and bridge and loves poetry.
